Most strategic planning books focus on how to plan for a new business. But what about current small to mid-size companies, or departments and agencies in larger corporations, educational institutions, and state & local governments? Many of these operations have been running for years without actionable strategic plans.
My new book outlines a process for managers to develop strategic plans for their existing operations which meet their unique situations, such as:
- Already being experts in their business
- Having some predefined goals and objectives
- Currently working on initiatives
- Being too busy to spend much time on planning
- Desiring something useful, not just a management exercise
- Needing guidance on how to start, complete, and use strategic plans
My process leverages decades of experience writing strategic plans for major corporations as well as input from over a hundred operational managers. I expect to release the book, tentatively titled New Strategies for Old Businesses, later in 2020.
