PRINCESS
Southwest Wessex was a rugged place to live in the early seventh century. The Romans had withdrawn a scant hundred years earlier. And while they were sophisticated builders, the people they had oppressed still lived in wattle and daub houses, where even the grandest lodges were made of wood. Life in the heavily forested land was harsh, with villagers facing starvation, bandits, marauding wolves, ruthless kings, and invading armies. Most women only lived into their early thirties, which meant that most, but not all girls chose to marry and bear children as soon as they were physically able.
So, civilization was far different fourteen hundred years ago, but children became adults, people had fears, hopes, and dreams, and the journey to finding and living a meaningful life was, perhaps not so different than it is today. Princess explores one girl’s story of love, strength, vision, and duty as she comes of age and enters the world.
